What’s the Difference Between a Quiz and a Practice?
Quizzes are built by the teacher and are intended for practice, quizzes, or assessments. They include the same set of questions for all students, and the AI Math Coach is not available.
Practices are personalized reviews that can be created by the teacher or triggered by the system based on student need. They support learning with AI Math Coach access and tailor questions by skill.
What is Proficiency in Edia?
Proficiency reflects a student’s current level of understanding for a specific skill or standard, based on their performance across multiple interactions with that concept. Edia calculates proficiency as a percentage, which represents the student’s demonstrated success on that skill over time.
A higher percentage means the student is showing consistent accuracy and understanding.
Proficiency updates dynamically as the student answers more questions aligned to the same standard—whether in Quizzes, Practices, or their individual pathway.
When looking at individual standards, color coding is used to make levels of proficiency easy to interpret:
🟢 Green = Proficient
🟡 Yellow = Needs More Time
🔴 Red = Needs Help
Proficiency is not based on a single assignment. It’s a cumulative, evolving measure that reflects mastery across all relevant activity.
How is growth measured in Edia?
Growth is a measure of how much a student’s proficiency has improved over time within a specific standard or across a broader domain. Edia tracks growth by comparing a student’s earlier performance on a skill to their more recent work.
If a student starts with low proficiency and improves through practice or Practice, that improvement is captured as growth.
Growth can be observed in:
Skill-level breakdowns on student profiles
Class-level data views over time
Transitions from red or yellow to green in the standards view
Growth highlights progress - not just performance - and helps identify students who are responding well to intervention or independent practice.
